Into the Woods

If you’ve been following along for a while, you know God talks to me about my kids long before they are born.

When I was pregnant with Lucy, God spoke very clearly to me about what her gender, name, personality, and even some of her spiritual gifts would be, all when I was only 11 weeks pregnant and we hadn’t even heard her heartbeat or had an ultrasound yet. (See Story about Lucy’s Name: Lucy the Joyful )

This time around was pretty different. I was pretty sure we were having a boy but didn’t feel confident. And I THOUGHT I had gotten a boy name a few months before getting pregnant but felt like I was in a fog this pregnancy. However, one thing that kept coming back to me when I would pray about this baby was Woods and Bears. I kept thinking of Northern Minnesota and the Black Hills and even Canada (although I’ve never been). More and more a vision came together for baby boy’s room.

My grandpa will be 91 years old this year. He is a farmer and has three daughters. I was always a little sad that his legacy (both in farming and his last name) would not continue on in our family. So, for a long time, I’ve toyed with the idea of some how incorporating “Peter” or “Peterson” in a baby boy’s name, if we ever had any sons, hoping to keep the Peterson name going, one way or the other.

However, one night earlier in my pregnancy, I was praying with Christian and he said, “Richard is supposed to be his middle name.” At this point in time we were pretty sure but not 100% sure we were having a baby boy.

Fast forward to our 20 week anatomy scan and we found out we were in fact having a boy! In the waiting room, waiting to meet with my doctor, I suddenly had “HENRY” come to mind. We were in masks and our seats were further apart so I text Christian and said, “I wish Henry wasn’t such popular name. I love the name Henry.” And he responded he thought the same thing! Driving home we couldn’t believe we both had the same name come to us in the waiting room at that appointment.

Later at home, I was praying for confirmation and felt like God confirmed “Henry Richard” as baby boy’s name.

What I could not get over is that my Grandpa Richard’s father’s name was Henry. They enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada and my Grandpa has so many stories of his adventures. It tied in perfectly to the woods and bears theme God gave me for Henry’s room.

Enjoy some photos of Henry’s room! God is good and I am humbled and grateful to watch everything unfold and all the details at play.
